New Line of Exchangeable Heads for Internal Groove-Turn Applications

    CUT-GRIP

    Highlights
A new line of interchangeable heads with serrated type connection for internal groove-turn applications

    Overview
Following the development of new anti-vibration boring bars, round boring bars and CAMFIX holders with serrated type connections, ISCAR expand its range of solutions for groove-turn applications by adding interchangeable heads.

    Main Features
    • Interchangeable heads for Ø32 and 40 mm serrated type connections are suitable for GIPI/GINI/GIFI/TIPI type inserts
    • Interchangeable heads for Ø16, 20 and 25 mm serrated type connections are suitable for GEPI/GEMI type inserts
    • Interchangeable heads for Ø32 and 40 mm serrated type connections are suitable for clamping internal single ended blades
    • All heads feature an internal coolant system

    Center Height Setup
Setting the tool’s orientation can be performed by using a calibration plane and/or spirit level.

    • Heads for 32 & 40 mm shank diameters should be rotated by 30° in relation to the serration direction
    • Heads for 25 & 20 mm shank diameters should be rotated by 15° in relation to serration direction
    • Heads for 16 mm shank diameters should be rotated by 45° in relation to serration direction

    Groove-Turn in Deep Holes
One of the main advantages of the new interchangeable heads is the possibility to use them for groove-turn applications in deep holes. Mounting these heads on anti-vibration boring bars enables quiet and stable operation with excellent surface quality, even in big overhangs up to 10D (10 * Bar diameter).

    Overhang to Bar Diameter Ratio
The maximum overhang to bar diameter ratio depends on several factors:
    • Part material
    • Machine / Clamping rigidity
    • Cutting parameters
    • Insert / Tool geometry

The following results present the maximum overhang to bar diameter ratio that maintains quiet and stable grooving operations on steel. These results can be used as basic recommendations for long overhang groove-turn applications on steel.
